Sumona, Julekha win golds in weightlifting on day three

Sumona Roy of Rangpur and Julekha of Dhaka clinched golds in the girls’ 45kg and 49kg events in weightlifting on the third day of Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games 2023 at Bangladesh Army Stadium on Monday.

Sumona lifted 115kg (52kg snatch+63kg clean and jerk) while Julekha lifted 111kg (50kg snatch+61kg clean and jerk). Maruf Hossain of Khulna earned gold in the boys’ 55kg lifting 173kg (79kg snatch+94kg clean and jerk) in the same discipline at the same venue on this day.

In cycling, Al Mamun of Khulna bagged two gold medals in the boys’ 1000m and elimination race, Rasahed Ali of Chattogram bagged gold in the boys’ 2000m scratch race and Khulna won gold in the boys’ 2000m team time trials.

Rahela Khatun of Chattogram bagged gold in the girls’ 500m time trials, Nasrin Sultana bagged gold in the girls’ elimination race, Singdha Akhter of Chattogram won gold in the girls’ 1000m scratch race and Chattogram clinched gold in the girls’ 1000m team time trials.

In Judo, Alif Ifti Badhon of Dhaka bagged gold in the boys’ -73kg, Manowar Hossain of Rangpur won gold in the boys’ -60kg, Shahin Ahmed of Khulna earned gold in the boys’ -66kg and Fuad Ahmed of Barishal clinched gold in the boys’ 73+kg.

Mishu Akhter Swarno of Barishal clinched gold in the girls’ -36kg, Remi Hasi of Rajshahi bagged gold in the girls’ -40kg, Mostakima of Barishal won gold in the girls’ -44kg and Mushfiqa Khatun of Rajshahi bagged gold in the girls’ -48kg.

In taekwondo, Khalid Bin Aziz, Mahamudunnabi, Mehdi Hassan and Tahib Hasan of Chattogram clinched golds in the boys’ -45kg, -48kg, -51kg and -55kg while Rihan Alam of Dhaka bagged gold in the boys’ -59kg.

In hockey, four teams -- Rajshahi, Dhaka, Chattogram and Rangpur reached the boys’ semifinals. In football, two other teams -- Rajshahi and Chattogram joined Dhaka and Rangpur in the girls’ semifinals.
