Middle-order batsman Yasir Ali shone with the bat during an intra-squad practice match between BCB Green and BCB Blue teams in the presence of new head coach Chandika Hathurusingha at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.
Yasir, who is one of the contenders to fill in the 15th member spot for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, struck 61 off 58 balls while Liton Das and Aminul Islam Biplob also made 36 and 28 runs respectively as Tamim Iqbal-led Blue side posted 205 runs in 42.4 overs after they decided to bat first.
However, skipper Tamim and experienced Mushfiqur Rahim failed to make their mark as they could only score two and six runs respectively and both the batters were dismissed by pacer Hasan Mahmud (3-20).
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, who was recalled for the England ODI series, justified his selection by finishing with 4-23 while leg-spinner Rishad Hossain also took two wickets.
Green team led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, in reply, faced the wrath of Blue team bowlers as they were bowled out for only 101 runs in 21.3 overs to suffer a massive 104-run defeat to their opposition.
Pacer Ebadot Hossain finished with 4-37 while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Nasum Ahmed claimed 3-16 and 2-3 respectively.
Shanto was the top scorer in the Green team innings as he made 27 runs while Mahmudul Hasan Joy, another national team aspirant for the England series, could contribute 18 runs.
Veteran Mahmudullah demonstrated a similarly poor performance as Tamim and Mushfiqur in the game as he could make only seven runs for the Green side while newcomer Towhid Hridoy was handed a two-ball duck in the innings.
Meanwhile, England pacer Saqib Mahmood arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday along with the team manager ahead of the white-ball series against Bangladesh, consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is, scheduled to start on March 1 in Mirpur.
The remaining members of the England ODI squad will arrive in Dhaka today while some members of the T20I squad will arrive later. The Three Lions are expected to start their preparation for the ODI series in Mirpur on Saturday.
