CHATTOGRAM: Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury urged the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) to increase vigilance so that everyone follows the building codes.
“Real estate companies are developing some high-rise buildings. But CDA should keep an eye to ensure the building codes are being followed,” he said.
He said this while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 15th version of real estate and housing fair “REHAB Chattogram Fair-2023” organised by Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) at hotel Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View.
Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, CDA Chairman M Zahirul Alam Dubash, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Mahbubul Alam and REHAB Vice President-1 Kamal Mahmud also addressed the programme.
REHAB Vice President and Chattogram Regional Committee Chairman Abdul Kauiam Chowdhury presided over the event.
In his speech, the minister requested the developers to handover the flats with exact sizes to their clients.
“Many companies are taking out some 20 to 30 percent of land in the name of common areas, which is immoral,” he said.
The Land Minister also said that the developers will have to focus on creativity in their works and keep spaces for recreational activities while developing those buildings.
“Spaces for open fields and walkways should be kept in mind before development,” he observed.
The minister said that land taxes will be collected fully online from the upcoming Pahela Baishakh or Bengali New Year.
The organisers said a total of 48 firms will take part in the fair this year. The firms include 11 companies of building materials and financial organisations.
There are two gold sponsors and 17 co-sponsors in the fair that will remain open for the visitors from 10:00am to 9:00pm every day.
Ticket price has been fixed at Tk 50 for single entry and Tk 100 for multiple entries.
