Masum Billah, who was stated murdered in a case filed with a Patuakhali court, has been arrested from Demrain the capital.

On Monday, a team of Lawful Interception Cell at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Masum, 27, son of Mostafa Howlader and Kulsum Begum of Sherpur at Kalapara in Patuakhali.

The murder case was proved false. It was filed against his in-law’s family members to punish them.

Azad Rahman, additional superintendent of police (media) of the CID, confirmed it to the Daily Sun on Tuesday.

He said the arrestee’s mother Kulsum filed the case on January 17 in 2022, stating that family members of Masum’s in-laws killed him after abduction from their house (in-law), and hid his body.

Masum’s wife, father-in-law and mother-in-law were made accused in the case.

The matter of the false murder created a stir in the district and was widely reported in print and electronic media, said Azad.

Then, chief of CID Mohammad Ali Mia directed the LIC unit to carry out a shadow investigation into the case.

The LIC unit suspected something wrong after talking to the plaintiff, neighbours and the accused in the case.

At one stage of the shadow investigation, the CID came   to know that Masum’s father-in-law filed a fraud case against him (Masum), his father and mother with a court of the district earlier.

The matter added to the suspicion much more. After that, they tried to arrest Masum and finally succeeded.

During primarily interrogation, he said that police placed a report in the case filed by his father-in-law before the court.

After the submission of the investigation report, the court issued an arrest warrant against Masum and later he went into hiding.

Afterwards, they filed the case to get rid of the case against them and punish his in-law’s family.
