The main phase of Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games (U-17), organised by Bangladesh Olympic Association will be held from February 26 to March 4 at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital.
The event for the country’s emerging athletes (U-17) was named after Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and younger brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier, the inter-upazila (first) phase and inter-district (second) phase were held on January 2-10 and January 16-22 respectively countrywide with the participation of around sixty thousand athletes, coaches and referees.
The qualified participants from inter-upazila and inter-district phases will compete for 1419 medals – 429 gold, 429 silver, and 561 bronze -- in 198 events of 24 disciplines including seven teams and 17 individuals during the main phase.
The disciplines are -- archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, rugby, shooting, swimming, cycling, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu and Squash.
The first edition of National Youth Games was held in 2018 with the participation of fifty thousand athletes, coaches and referees from nationwide for 21 disciplines.
