Sriram unlikely to return to Bangladesh

Former T20 Technical Consultant Sridharan Sriram is unlikely to return to the Bangladesh set-up, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Saturday.

Sriram replaced Russell Domingo in the shortest format ahead of the T20 Asia Cup last year and was in charge of the Tigers’ T20 set-up till the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Sriram came to Bangladesh during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League to sit with the BCB high-ups to have a clear picture of his role in the coming days but the BCB failed to do so considering they were mulling the idea of not continuing with split coaching.

Following the appointment of the former Sri Lankan batsman Chandika Hathurusingha as an across-format head coach, there were serious doubts regarding Sriram’s joining the set-up as the assistant coach of Hathurusingha.

“Sriram’s chance is very little because he is not available,” Jalal Yunus, BCB’s cricket operation chairman, told reporters in Mirpur.

“Mainly he is not interested in BCB’s terms (and conditions),” he said, adding that they are unlikely to rope in a new assistant coach for Hathurusingha before the series against England.

Meanwhile, Jalal informed that they are unlikely to play the four-match T20I series when they travel to Ireland to face the hosts in their own backyard in the coming days. “Ireland could not arrange the venues so the T20Is might not be played,” Jalal concluded.
