BIMSTEC Silver Jubilee Quiz to be held in Bhutan Feb 14

The first-ever BIMSTEC Quiz will be held in Thimphu, Bhutan, on February 14, marking the 25th anniversary of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

Foreign Affairs Minister and External Trade of Bhutan Dr Tandi Dorji will be the chief guest in the programme, said the BIMSTEC Secretariat Dhaka on Friday.  

Seven teams composed of two secondary school students representing each of the seven Member States of BIMSTEC – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand-will compete of the Quiz.

The contest is being organised by the BIMSTEC Secretariat in Dhaka, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and  External Trade of Bhutan, and with the support of the Ministries of Foreign/ External Affairs of all the BIMSTEC Member States.

The Secretariat decided to organise an event of this nature in connection with BIMSTEC’s Silver Jubilee, recognising the importance of young people in driving regional cooperation and integration. 

It is hoped that events of this nature will help foster fraternal spirits that are essential for meaningful regional cooperation to materialise, and that BIMSTEC Member States would be inspired to take steps to create more opportunities in future for young people in the region to come together and interact with each other as the Organisation evolves.

The Quiz will be streamed live on the Facebook page of the Bhutan Broadcasting Service at 10am Bhutan time on the day (9.30am– India and Sri Lanka; 9.45am- Nepal; 10:00am – Bangladesh; 10.30am– Myanmar; 11:00am– Thailand).

The participants are:  Abudullah Ishrak Shihab and Arshil Bin Wahid from Bangladesh, Nayeza Tshering and Tashi Norbu from Bhutan, India’s Reet and Ron Dutta, Myanmar’s Myo Zet Aung and Mya Kay Khine Kyaw; Sushank Paudel and Aayusha Bohara from Nepal, Sri Lanka’s STD Premasiri and BDMA Wanigaratne, and  Chittiphattra Changtham and Kanyaphat Boontham from Thailand.
