Bankers will be required to have a diploma in banking for every promotion from officer to general manager level, said a new directive of Bangladesh Bank.
The directive will be effective from the first day of 2024, according to the circular of the Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD) issued on Wednesday.
The central bank circular also mentioned that the curriculum includes all the theoretical and practical
knowledge of banking. This degree examination examines basic and fundamental knowledge of banking as well as advanced banking knowledge and skills.
“It is mandatory to pass both phases of the banking diploma for inclusion in the eligibility list for promotion to senior officer or equivalent positions in order to increase the skills, qualifications and capabilities of bank officers,” added the directive.
However, Bangladesh Bank also stated that this directive will not be applicable in the case of officials working in the positions of doctors, engineers (civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and IT) and publicity and publication, who are not directly involved in banking activities.
