Popular drama troupe ‘Theatre’ will stage its much-acclaimed production ‘Draupadi Parampara’ at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital today.
The play will be staged at the main auditorium of the academy at 07:30pm, marking the golden jubilee of ‘Theatre’.
The play illustrates the story of Draupadi, who emerged from the sacred fire in Panchala and was wife to the five Pandavas.
Actually, ‘Draupadi Parampara’ shows Draupadi’s sufferings in patriarchal society by showing her humiliation at the hands of the Kauravas after she was put on bet at a dice-game by Yudhishthira, the eldest Pandava.
The character of Draupadi criticises the patriarchal system in society which silenced her voice, belittled her dignity and put her in embarrassing situations. She equates herself with all women who have been oppressed in patriarchal society.
The probale cast of the play includes Tahmina Akter, Akifa Alam, Yusha Antara, Prabir Datta, Shahriar Alam, Shangkar Sarkar, Lelin Firozi, Jahangir Kabir and others.
