Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman GM Quader on Sunday said they want the next general election to be held in a free, fair and neutral manner.
“We want free, fair and impartial elections. Acceptable elections ensure accountability in society. A republic succeeds only when accountability is ensured,” he said.
The statement came after the High Court (HC) on the day stayed a lower court order that imposed a temporary ban on party activities of GM Quader.
Mentioning that discrimination has been increasing day by day in the country, he said the discrimination is contrary to the spirit of the Liberation War and to ensure good governance in the country, a social system based on rule of law and justice must be established.
“A group of people are not able to eat three meals a day. They can’t ensure treatment for their children. Another group owns thousands of crores of taka. They are siphoning off the country’s money abroad,” GM Quader said.
The JP leader said the country’s people are suffering a lot due to hike in prices of essential commodities while the prices of imported goods are increasing due to dollar price hike.
Chaired by JP Dhaka north city unit President Shafiqul Islam Sentu, the programme was also addressed by the party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu.
