Police have refused to record a case against the authorities of United Hospital Ltd over the death of a foreign pilot due to alleged wrong treatment and negligence.
US citizen Tala Elhendi Josephano, sister of the deceased Yousef Hassan Al Hindi, a Gulf Air pilot, with her lawyer Barrister Mahua Morshed went to Gulshan police station to file the case around 7:00pm on Tuesday.
After staying at the police station for two and half hours, they came out at 9;30pm and claimed that police refused to lodge the case.
Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Farman Ali and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Gulshan Zone Assistant Commissioner Newton Das asked them to file a case in court.
Later, they came out the police station, said Barrister Mahua.
Josephano said, “Police are helping the hospital authorites cover up her brother’s death.” She said that she would continue her legal battle for justice.
Josephano, who works for the British government, said her brother Yousef fell ill after arriving in Bangladesh and was admitted to United Hospital on December 14, 2022, where he died.
“I asked for necessary documents from the authorites of the hospital, but they did not cooperate. What they provided was fraudulent documents,” she said.
According to the foreign woman, Yousef was staying at Le Méridien hotel on December 14, 2022. He was scheduled to operate a Gulf Air flight early morning. He got up at 2:45am and got ready for the flight. Then, he started the process of immigration at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) around 4:10am. Later, he fell and became unresponsive.
He had his first cardiac arrest at the airport and then received five minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but gradually his blood pressure started to deteriorate. Yousef was just then rushed to United Hospital.
Josephano said, “My brother was drugged and put to sleep during the treatment process. Hospital authorities said he was treated by Dr Kaisar Nasir. However, our family could not find his name in the medical documents.”
On January 26, 2023, she asked the hospital authorities for medical records and CCTV footage of the day from the hospital, but the authority made fun of her and treated very rudely.
