As part of its drive against juvenile delinquency, elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested 16 members of a teenage gang, including its suspected ringleader, from different parts of the capital and its adjoining area.
Eight of the arrestees were identified as Md Shah Jalal, 19, the alleged kingpin, Mokabbir Hossain Ayan, 19, Emon Sardar, 20, Md Russell, 19, Md Sujan, 19, Md Munna Hossain, 19, Md Raju, 19, and Md Hasan, 19, while the rest eight are underage.
He said during primary interrogation, the detainees confessed that the gang members, led by Jalal alias Pichchi Jalal, used to waylay pedestrians in sparsely populated areas and snatch their belongings, including wallets, money, gold ornaments, handsets and laptops, at gunpoint.
The RAB official said the arrested juvenile criminals have admitted that apart from theft and robbery, they had also been involved in drug trade, extortion, eve-teasing, infighting and creating various anti-social and obscene TikTok videos through mobile phone and spreading them through social media.
Earlier on Saturday, the elite force arrested eight members of teenage gang BDSK (Brave Danger Strong King) from Dhaka and Faridpur.
