Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) is likely to wrap up tomorrow despite the traders' demand to extend the country's mega business exhibition.

“The fair will end on Tuesday. It should not be extended,” Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) secretary Iftikher Ahmed Chowdhury told the Daily Sun.

EPB is organising the 27th edition of the DITF at Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal, the outskirts of the capital Dhaka.

The EPB official informed that the Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony as the chief guest while Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will be the guest of honour on the occasion.

The participating traders requested the authorities to extend the duration of the fair claiming that they had lower sales compared to the previous editions.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the DITF on the first day of the new year. Some 331 stalls and pavilions have been installed while some 17 organisations from 10 countries including Singapore, Indonesia, Korea and India are taking part in the event.

The in-hall cafeteria has the capacity to accommodate 500 participants at a time while 23 food corners serve dishes inside the fair.

Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation introduced 50 shuttle buses to carry passengers between Kuril and the venue of the trade fair.

The bus fare was fixed at Tk 35 per passenger. The passengers get a 50 per cent discount if the fare is paid through bKash. The entry fee for the DITF is Tk 40 for an adult and Tk 20 for children while the expo arena is open from 9 am to 10 pm during the fair.
