Rangpur Riders officials said on Sunday that they will donate Tk 5 lakh to pace bowler Shariful Islam, who is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Bangladesh Cricket Board has already donated Tk 5 lakh to the cricketer and assured him to give all the required assistance while ODI captain Tamim Iqbal donated Tk 10 lakh for his treatment purposes.

“We will give him Tk 5 lakh after reaching Dhaka. It is given on behalf of our players and members of team management,” Rangpur officials confirmed to The Daily Sun on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a top Rangpur official also informed that Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman will sign for them for the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, the country’s lone franchise-based tournament brushing aside the claim that the off-spinner is expecting to play for Fortune Barishal in the tournament.

“Just now, his agent confirmed that Mujeeb will play for us,” Rangpur Riders’ Executive Director Shanian Taneem told The Daily Sun on Sunday.

Mujeeb will arrive in Dhaka on February 6 and he will play for the Riders throughout the tournament.
