3 arrested with 20 gold bars in two districts

Law enforcers arrested three people with 20 gold bars in separate drives in Khulna and Jashore.

Two persons arrested in Khulna are identified as Abul Hossain and Emon, who tried to smuggle 15 gold bars out Saturday morning.

Police arrested the duo after searching a passenger bus at the Zero Point of the Khulna-Satkhira highway.

Sources confirmed that law enforcers detected the gold bars measuring nearly 2 kilograms.

Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Labanchara Police Station, said, "During the search at a bus of Tungipara Express, police doubted two persons for their inconsistent statements. Cops later seized 15 gold bars from the duo's shoes."

Meanwhile, members of the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) arrested Abul Kalam, who was carrying five gold bars, in the Bagachra area of Sharsha upazila under Jashore.

The arrestee is the son of Jamal Hossain of Bagachara village under the upazila.

Abul Kalam was riding his motorcycle to his smuggling point, according to Lt Col Sahed Minhaz Siddiki, Commanding Officer of BGB-49 Battalion.

The gold bars weighing 3.583 kg are estimated to be worth nearly Tk 58 lakh.
