Law enforcers arrested seven members of a gang involved in stealing readymade garments (RMG) from a covered van on the way to port for shipment and recovered Tk 5 crore in Narayanganj.
A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Ripon alias Choto Ripon, 43, Billal Hossain, 36, Nayem Islam, 27, Mohammad Akash, 26, Mohammad Sumon, 30, Mohammad Farid, 38 and Manjur Hossain Jiku, 38, on January 26 and 27.
He stated that they raided Bhai Bhai Timber Saw Mill's tin-shed godwon at Langalbandha in Bandar of Narayanganj and recovered Tk 5 crore in apparel products after receiving information that the garments of an RMG factory were stolen from a covered van on the way to Chattogram for shipment. Subsequently, the criminals were arrested.
During primary interrogation, the arrested men said the products were loaded into a covered van from the factory in Dhaka on January 26 afternoon.
The driver, who is also a member of the gang, went to a petrol pump in Tejgaon and waited for Nayeem. Nayeem then reached the vehicle, and they both took it to the godown.
After reaching there, Billal, Farid, Manju and some others tactfully opened the door of the covered van without unlocking its locks.
They then took the cartons of RMG products to the storehouse. But the elite force obtained information about their theft and conducted a raid there. The force recovered the products and arrested them on Friday.
After that, he began working as a driver and subsequently got connected to a gang that used to steal RMG products.
Finally, he formed an inter-district racket and stole apparel products.
A case was filed against them with Darussalam Police Station.
