The electricity demand may surge by additional 1281MW (megawatts) to 16000MW in the current Boro paddy irrigation period that will start from February, 2023.
Chaired by state minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid, Power Division officials disclosed it at an inter-ministerial meeting held at Biddut Bhaban.
The division allowed 4,65,456 irrigation pumps that will expected to consume 2400MW of electricity exclusively.
State Minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid has instructed to officials concern to ensure uninterrupted supply of power for Boro Irrigation.
He called upon the farmers to follow maintaining the peak and off-peak electricity supply.
Besides, the minister also instructed the concern officials to ensure storage fuels required for two months for smooth electricity production.
Power Division Secretary Md Habibur Rahman, Bangladesh Power Development Board chairman Md Mahbubur Rahman, Rural Electrification Board chairman Md Salim Uddin, Petrobangla chairman Janendra Nath Sarket and Power Cell director general Mohammed Hossain attended at the meeting.
