Three men, including a member of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), were arrested for an abduction attempt on the Mohakhali Flyover in the capital early Saturday.
The arrestees are Momem, a constable of the RAB, Forhad and Joy, said Sub Inspector Mahfuz of Banani Police Station.
"The arrestees attempted to kidnap two men—Shahidul Islam and his maternal uncle—aiming to rob them of their cash and valuables. Police were trying to arrest the others involved in the crime," he said.
Victim Shahidul said that he and his maternal uncle were travelling by car to his house from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area.
"When our car reached the flyover, another car intercepted our car at about 2:00 am. Four men introducing themselves as RAB members pointed pistols at us and asked us to come out of our car," he said.
"When we got out, they accused us of being gold smugglers and tried to force us into their car at gunpoint. At one point, they handcuffed us and began to assault us. Then we began shouting, suspecting them as criminals," he said.
Hearing our screams, commuters began to shout and chase the criminals. Within a few moments, police reached the spot and caught one of them while others managed to flee, he said.
