Abinta’s mother Ruba Ahmed speaks about ‘Faraaz’ movie
Ruba Ahmed speaks at the press conference.

Ruba Ahmed, who lost her lone child Abinta Kabir in the 2016 Holey Artisan attack, spoke about the film ‘Faraaz’-based on the gruesome attack on Thursday.

Ruba arranged a press conference in the capital on the morning to discuss about the Hansal Meheta -directed movie ‘Faraaz’ which is going to be released in India on February 3. She  shared her opinion and perception regarding this movie at the conference. Her main point was that the movie should not be released, especially in Bangladesh.

During the conference she said, “The Indian filmmakers did not take any consent from any of the victims’ family. The movie directly resembles the characters and their closest people, even after the producers denied that they would not have any resemblance.”

“It is possible that the movie can ruin our Bangladesh’s reputation – especially because this movie is directed by Indian filmmakers, so it is completely unacceptable to have another country’s people portray an incident of our country” she added.

Abinta’s mother thinks that the film may depict her daughter in a ‘bad light’ and that she would have to revisit the trauma all over again. Ruba doesn’t want the broadcast, she doesn’t want spotlight. “The victims, who died in the incident are not celebrities, these are private persons who are grieving,” she further said.

Ruba sent legal notice to the movie makers from December 2019 and all possible legal steps were taken. Even if the movie is released, Ruba will try her maximum best to continue speaking out against it.

“A case against the film is going on in Delhi High Court. The court on Tuesday asked filmmaker Hansal Mehta, me and mother of another, who lost her life in the terrorist attack, to sit together and try to resolve the issue pertaining to the film ‘Faraaz’”, said Ruba.

‘Faraaz’ is a Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by T-Series and Benaras Media Works. The movie is based on the Holey Artisan Bakery Attack in Dhaka in July 2016 that shook Bangladesh.
