The two-time champions Bashundhara Kings reached the quarterfinals of the Bashundhara Group Federation Cup 2022-23 as they defeated Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra by 4-3 goals in their second match of Group B at the Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani Stadium in Gopalganj on Tuesday.

Kings earlier beat Fortis Football Club by 2-0 goals in their first group match at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj in December. They earned six points from two wins.

In Gopalganj, Kings Brazilian captain Robson Robinho opened their account with a right-footed shot dribbling three Muktijoddha players inside the box in the 15th minute (1-0) and Uzbek midfielder Asror Gofurov doubled it in the 36th minute (2-0), but Muktijoddha Nigerian forward Emmanuel Ikechukwu Uzchukwu reduced the gap utilising a goalkeeping error just after two minutes in the 38th minute (2-1).

After half time, Kings forward Sumon Reza and Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes Nascimento added two more goals in the 49th and 82nd minutes (4-1). Reza headed the ball into the right way off a free kick from Robson while Dorielton volleyed the long ball from defender Tutul Hosain Badsha.

But Muktijoddha desperately continued to equalise their level against their mighty opponents at their home. They created several close chances during the last five-minute during the stipulated 90-minute and scored two goals within a span of three-minute. Burundian forward Selemani Landry Ndikumana and Emmanuel netted one each in the 86th and 89th minutes (4-3).

Meanwhile, in the day’s other match, Chattogram Abahani and Fortis Football Club played a goalless draw in Munshiganj.

Ctg Abahani are in the second place with four points from one win and one draw while Fortis earned one point from one draw and one defeat and Muktijoddha are yet to open their account as they suffered two defeats.
