Tide of BNP’s popularity has receded: Quader

Popular News

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the tide of BNP’s popularity has receded as they have failed to wage a successful movement against the government.

"The tide of BNP’s popularity has receded. The BNP's movement to overthrow the government and their mass uprising are both bogus. They say the movement will be conducted this year or next year. How many years do people live?" he said.

Quader made the remarks while addressing a rally on Madani Avenue in Natun Bazar in the capital on Monday.

Dhaka North City unit of Awami League organised the rally, protesting the BNP’s acts of terrorism, militancy, anarchy and anti-state conspiracies.

Explaining the reasons for the BNP and its alliance partners’ failure to develop a movement, the AL general secretary said BNP and its associate parties have no leader to lead.

"BNP’s alliance is bogus. Sheikh Hasina is our leader for the next election. Who is the leader of the 54 parties (BNP-led alliance)?             Some people say their leader is in Gulshan, while others say their leader is in London. Both of them are convicted by the court," Quader said.

He also said the BNP leaders are now watching in darkness as mega development projects, including the Padma Bridge, Metro Rail, and Karnaphuli  Tunnel, were implemented in the country.

"They have never seen such development. As the country is now self-sufficient in food. They are burning internally. Bringing all houses under electricity coverage and opening over 100 bridges in one day made them (BNP leaders) irritated," he said.

Quader, who is also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, stated that it is the government's responsibility to ensure the safety and prosperity of the people.

"If anyone creates terrorism with fire, plays with sticks, and creates unrest by blocking roads, we will remain beside the people to protect their lives and properties. If anyone wants to play with fire, it will not be tolerated," the AL general secretary said.

AL joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, organising secretary Ahmed Hossain, office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, advisory council member AKM Rahmat Ullah and general secretary of Badda thana Awami League AM Jahangir Alam, among others, also addressed the programme.

Dhaka North City Awami League president Bazlur Rahman chaired the programme anchored by Dhaka North City Awami League general secretary SM Mannan Kochi.
