4 more die at Ijtema venue

4 more die at Ijtema venue

Four more devotees died at Tongi Biswa Ijtema venue on Friday night and Saturday morning.

They died as a result of old age complications and respiratory problems, bringing the total death toll to seven since the beginning of the Ijtema's first phase.

Jisanul Hoque, an additional deputy commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), confirmed it to the Daily Sun.

The deceased were identified as Nurul Haque, 63, son of Fazlul Haque of Jointapur in Sylhet, Abu Taiab alias Abu Taleb, 90, of Gazipur,          Habibullah Habi, 68, of Keraniganj in Dhaka, Mofazzel Hossain Khan, 70, son of Mobark Hossain of Dumuria in Khulna, Akkas Ali Shikdar, 50, son of Adil Uddin Shikdar of Munshiganj, Abdur Razzak, 70, son of Abdul Rashid of Chattogram and Habibur Rahman Hobi, 70, son of Rahmatullah of Narsingdi.

Of them, Nurul Haque and Abu Taiab died on Thursday, while Habiullah, Mofazzel and Akkas died on Friday and Razzak and Habibur died on Saturday morning.

The first phase of Ijtema will end today with Akheri Munajat (final prayers).

The Ijtema has been held in two phases since 2012. The second phase of Ijtema is scheduled to be held on January 20–22 at the same place.
