Over 30 tonnes honey collected in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR: Honey collection is on the last stage in the district as most of the harvesters have completed their collection from mustard filed during this current season.

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said they have collected 30305 kilograms (KGs) of honey from the mustard field in seven Upazilas of the district till January 1.

According to the DAE sources, in the year of 2022-2023, farmers in the district have cultivated mustard on 32600 hectares of land but honey is being collected from 5662 hectares of land which is 747 hectares more than last year.

Honey collectors set up 5940 bee boxes in all the seven Upazilas in the district which is 1092 boxes more than last year.

The office said 5830kg honey was collected from Islampur Upazila while 14315kg in Melandah, 3330kg in Sarishabari, 4360kg in Dewanganj, 1410kg in Bakshiganj, 380kg in Madarganj and 678kg in Jamalpur Sadar.

Deputy Director, DAE, Zakia Sultana said some honey collectors closed collection and left the spot but some others will collect honey up to mid of January.
