Bengal’s iconic singer and Rabindra Sangeet exponent Sumitra Sen is no more. She was suffering from age related ailments for a long time. She passed away at her Kolkata residence last night, reports Times of India.
Sumitra’s daughter, Rabindra Sangeet singer Srabani Sen informed the news on her Facebook account on Tuesday morning. She wrote, “Aaj Maa bhore chole gelen.”
Sumitra was undergoing treatment for severe bronchopneumonia. Her condition deteriorated on January 2 and she passed away on the wee hours of January 3.
While speaking to media, Srabani had earlier said that her mother is suffering from age-related ailments and doctors are trying their best. Sharing that her mother’s condition is not good, she added that the family brought her home after speaking to the doctors.
Sumitra’s daughters Srabanti Sen and Indrani Sen are also Rabindra Sangeet icons and have continued their mother’s legacy.
Sumitra Sen who was honoured with the Sangeet Mahasamman award by West Bengal government in 2012 enthralled music lovers for decades with Rabindra Sangeets.
