Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) arrested six robbers with 14 firearms and 486 rounds of bullet in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on Monday.
The arrestees are identified as Mohammad Ibrahim, 23, son of Hossain Ahmed, Mohammad Amin, 33, son of Nurul Islam, Mohammad Arif, 33, son of Sultan Ahmed, Mahmudur Rahman, 18, son of Nur Hakim, Mohammad Kaniz, 24, son of Hashem, Nabi Hossain, 28, son of Syed Ahmed.
Lt Com Abdur Rahman, media officer of the BCG Headquarters, revealed this to the Daily Sun on Tuesday.
On information, a team of BGC conducted a raid in Naf River near Shapuree Island around 1:00pm on Monday. The force chased a speedboat carrying the group of robbers while the gang was taking preparations to commit robbery there.
Sensing the presence of the force, the robbers tried to flee, the officer said. At one point, the robbers got down from the boat and entered Khararer Dip and hided inside jungle. Then, the two members of force arrested the six robbers from the jungle.
Eight foreign-made pistols, three guns, two LGs, a shotgun, four magazines, 486 bullets, four ramdas (big knives), 20,000 Yaba tablets, 21 bottles of foreign wine, 551 cans of beer, seven dresses worn during robbery, a handcuff and some other things were seized from their possession.
The officer said that the Khararer Dip is a remote area and isolated.
The BCG officer said they could capture the robbers during a nine-hour operation.
