Mahbub new cabinet secretary

The government has appointed Mahbub Hossain as new cabinet secretary.

To this effect, the public administration ministry issued a gazette notification on Tuesday.

Mahbub, who served as senior secretary at the ministry of power, energy and mineral resources, replaced Kabir Bin Anwar who went on post-retirement leave on January 3.

Finance Division additional secretary Khairuzzaman Mozumder has been made secretary at the energy and mineral resources ministry, said another official notification.

Mahbub Hossain graduated in sociology from the University of Dhaka in 1984. He also obtained a master’s degree in social science from the same department in 1985.

He also obtained an MBA from the University of North London in 2001 and an MA in gender and development from the University of Melbourne in 2007.

Mahbub, a member of the 1986 (8th) batch of the BCS, joined the civil service in 1989.

He has served the ministry of commerce, ministry of science and technology,

planning commission, prime minister's office, ministry of health and family welfare and the local government division with different capacities.

The new cabinet secretary also served as secretary of the secondary and higher education division from 2019 to 2022 before becoming the senior secretary at the energy and mineral resources division.
