Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has planned to launch bone marrow transplantation this year to provide best treatment at affordable cost in the country.
BSMMU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed said this while speaking at New Year Plan Declaration programme at the Hematology Department of the medical university in the capital on Monday.
“At the sometime, we will launch robotic surgery at the super specilaised hospital this year,” he added.
A number of people from Bangladesh visits different countries every year and spend huge amount of money for bone marrow transplantation.
Mentioning that the BSMMU also will establish a biobank, the BSMMU VC also hoped that liver transplantation will be completed successfully in the hospital.
Bone marrow transplantation is a medical treatment that replaces bone marrow with healthy cells. It can be used to treat certain types of cancer, such as leukemia, myeloma, and lymphoma, and other blood and immune system diseases that affect the bone marrow.
