South Zone-East Zone match ends in a draw

The second round Bangladesh Cricket League match between BCB South Zone and Islami Bank East Zone ended in a draw at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.

Resuming an overnight score of 53-3, East Zone were bowled out for 260 runs in their second innings to set South Zone a target of 276 runs on the final day.

Skipper Jahurul Islam (62), Ruyel Miah (60) and Mohammad Ashraful (50) all scored fifties for East Zone while South Zone’s off-spinner Moin Khan finished with 5-42.

South Zone, in reply, made 77-0 before the match ended in a draw.

Opener Anamul Haque Bijoy made 51 not out while Pinak Ghosh scored an unbeaten 26 runs.

East Zone earlier earned a narrow 15-run first innings lead after they bowled South Zone all out for 335 runs in their first innings. East Zone made 350 runs in the first innings.

With this draw, South Zone consolidated their chances to qualify for the final as they now have 10 points from two matches while East Zone and BCB North Zone are placed bottom with two and zero points respectively.

Central Zone have already confirmed their final berth as they have 18 points from two matches.

The third and last round will be played after a nearly two-month break on February 23 due to the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League, scheduled from January 6.

The final of the meet will be held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on March 2-5.
