Re-excavation of seven canals has been inaugurated at Shuagram in Kotalipara Upazila under Gopalganj which is believed to contribute immensely to irrigation and cultivation of land.
The government of Bangladesh and the government of Japan jointly initiated the re-excavation work on Thursday to be implemented by LGED under the “Second Small Scale Water Resources Development Project”.
Besides, annual general meeting of Shuagram Water Management Co-operative Society Limited of Kotalipara Upazila was held.
Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker, former housing and public works senior secretary, now entrusted with implementing development projects in Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s constituency Gopalganj-3, attended the programme as the chief guest.
Organised by Shuagram Water Management Co-operative Society Limited, the programme was presided over by Md Ehsanul Haque, executive engineer of Gopalganj LGED.
Kotalipara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ferdous Wahid, Upazila Awami League General Secretary Aynal Hossain Sheikh, upazila engineer Md Jahangir Alam, Upazila Chhatra League General Secretary M Mahbubur Rahman, and Shuagram Union Awami League President Gabriel Barai, among others, were present.
Upazila Parishad Vice-Chairman Laxmi Rani Sarkar moderated the programme which was also attended by male and female beneficiaries.
“All of you should grow crops to the best of your ability. Re-excavation of canals will increase water flow and bumper production. The premier is working tirelessly to improve the fate of you and other people of Bangladesh.”
