KHULNA: Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque on Saturday underlined the need for encouraging people to pay the Value Added Tax (VAT) for development of the country, reports BSS.
“Businessmen should pay the VAT being accountable to the law, side by side officials of the revenue department should maintain good manner with the businessmen,” he said while speaking at a seminar at Khalishpur Custom, Excise and VAT Commissionrate premises marking the national VAT Day and VAT Week as chief guest.
The KCC is implementing around Taka 2,200 crore development projects, the Mayor said that the development projects are implementing by citizen’s VAT and Tax.
“Dependency on the foreign aids are reducing and we have implemented the Padma Bridge,’ country’s mega project, by our own money,” he added.
Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate organised the seminar to mark the National VAT Day and VAT Week-2022.
Commissioner of Khulna Customs, Excise and VAT Md Zakir Hossain chaired the seminar while President of Dhaka Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal S M Humayun Kabir, Commissioner of Mongla Custom House Mohammad Neazur Rahman, Commissioner of Khulna Customs, Excise and VAT(Appeal) Commissionerate Dr Nahida Faridi, Additional Police Commissioner(Crime) of KMP Md Sazid Hossain and vice-president of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry(KCCI) Mostofa Jessan Bhutto addressed as special guests.
Deputy Income Tax Commissioner Belal Hossain presented the keynote paper at the seminar while Joint Commissioner of the Income Tax delivered the welcome speech.
Later, the chief guest awarded reception to 15 highest VAT paying organizations under Khulna zone during 2021-2022 FY.
