Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed has been appointed as the new Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

He was a full-time member of the last NHRC body.

President Abdul Hamid has appointed the new chairman and members for the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

A gazette notification was issued in this regard by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Thursday night, according to a press release.

As chairman of the NHRC, Kamal Uddin will get the salary and other benefits entitled to a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

Former secretary Selim Reza has   been made a full-time member of the NHRC. He will receive the salary and other benefits of a Supreme Court judge while serving as a full-time member of the commission.

At the same time, the President has also appointed five prominent people as honorary members of the NHRC.

The honorary members are former Senior Judge and Sessions Judge Mohammad Aminul Islam, Khagrachari Chamber of Commerce president Kongjari Chowdhury, University Grants Commission (UGC) member Prof Dr Biswajit Chanda, Dhaka University’s Department of Women and Gender Studies professor Dr Tania Haque and Supreme Court advocate Kawser Ahmed.
