DINAJPUR: An HSC candidate was killed allegedly by rivals at Birganj upazila in Dinajpur district on Sunday over a land dispute.

The incident took place in Bistapara area under Bhognagar union around 2:30 pm.

Deceased Akhi Akter, 20, was daughter of Akhtarul Islam. She was scheduled to take part in this year’s HSC examination.

Birganj Police Station officer-in-charge Subrata Kumar said there had been a dispute between Akhatarul Islam (the victim’s father) and his cousin Rokeya Begum over a land.

As a sequel to that, they along with their people were locked into a clash when Rokeya was going to occupy the land, leaving Akhatarul’s daughter critically injured.

She was rescued and taken to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment there.

Police detained five people — Rashida Begum, Sabina Akter, Shakil Hossain, Mister and Rubel—for interrogation over the incident, the OC added.
