CHATTOGRAM: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought votes for her party to have a scope to serve the people of the country like before.

She also called upon all to be united so that the BNP-Jamaat syndicate can’t play ducks and drakes with the fate of the people.

The premier came up with the call while addressing a mammoth rally at Polo Ground in the port city on Sunday afternoon. Awami League Chattogram city, north and south district units organised the rally.

She inaugurated 29 development projects and laid foundation stones of six others for development of Chattogram which turned into a human sea.

“I want a promise from you that you will vote for Boat in the upcoming election as you did in the past to give us the scope to serve people again,” she told the gathering.

“I am very happy to be here as I couldn’t attend public rally for the corona pandemic for a long time,” she said exchanging greetings with the gathering in Chittagonian language.

“I came under a gun attack during the Ershad regime in the city in 1988. But, I become astonished that Khaleda Zia awarded promotion to the police officer Raqibul Huda who led the attack. Khaleda was surely involved in the attack as she also made Raqibul a police chief,” she said.

Ziaur Rahman killed thousands of leaders  of Awami League and members of Army and Air Forces. Khaleda also did the same, unleashing untold torture on the AL men, she continued.

After the 2001 election, none of the Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians was spared from their hands in Chattogram. They cannot give anything but terrorism and militancy for the country, said the premier.

BNP wants to topple the government to capture the power without going to the elections as they will not get votes, she said.

The premier said they (BNP) know that people will not vote for them if there is an election. So they don't want elections. They expect that someone will put them in power. They also don't care about people.

Ziaur Rahman captured the power by killing the Father of the Nation, violating the constitution and army rules. They think that they will come to power through that way as they don’t like the democratic system, she critisied.

Sheikh Hasina, also president of Awami League, said December 10 is a very favourite date for BNP. It seems that they will occupy Dhaka city and topple the government on December 10 as they were collaborator of the Pakistani occupation forces.

“Khaleda Zia came to power on February 15 in 1996 by stealing people's votes. But, people didn’t accept them for this reason. Khaleda was forced to resign then within one and a-half months and BNP should remember it. The people of Bangladesh will not accept if someone steals the people's votes. They forgot it.”

She urged all to be united so that BNP-Jamaat, war criminals, anti-independence people cannot come to power again.

Bitterly criticising BNP's movement, the Awami League president said their movement means killing people. BNP has two qualities - stealing votes and killing people.

Portraying the atrocities carried out by BNP in 2013, she said they killed 500 people and burnt 3,000 people and 3,500 vehicles apart from launches and trains.

Khaleda–Tarique will have to answer one day for killing people through arson and people will take account of it one day, she observed.

Alleging that rumours are being spread that there is no money in reserve and banks Sheikh Hasina said, “I have developed digital Bangladesh, but they are spreading propaganda using the social media. But, all who went to withdraw money in these few days could withdraw money.”

Urging people not to be confused, she suspected that BNP-Jamaat might have intimacy with burglars as they were instigating people to withdraw money through the propaganda.

Listing the various development activities carried out by her government, the premier said the development projects inaugurated and the foundation stones of which were laid are gift for Chattogram people from her side in the month of victory.

The AL government carries out development activities, but BNP kill people, blasts grenades and make people confused, she said.

They looted people’s money and laundered them, she said questioning that how the family of Ziaur Rahman earned thousands of crores of money after assuming the power.

The first international airport in Chattogram and Dhaka-Chattogram four-lane projects were implemented by the AL government while railway is being developed from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar.

AL believes in peace and people get peace if the party comes to power, she said.

She informed that they found the reserve at 2.5 billion dollars in 1996 and increased it to 48 billion dollars during their tenures.

“We spent the reserve for providing food free of cost, incentives for business activities, farmers, purchasing medicines, vaccines and others. We provided the corona vaccines free of cost which is not done by many developed countries of the globe,” she said.

“None of the people of the country will remain homeless. We have already provided housing facilities to some 35 lakh people,” said the prime minister.

Different initiatives have been taken to develop special economic zones in every area where investment is coming and employment opportunities will be created.

Putting up different development activities taken for development of Chattogram, she said feasibility study has been started for introducing metro rail in Chattogram.

She again said that there is no scarcity of food in the country and her government will not let people to suffer from the food crisis as production has been increased several times.

Mentionable, the flock of people from the Chattogram city and all upazilas of the district started gathering at the rally venue since the early morning.

Not only the venue Polo Ground, the surrounding areas such as New Market, Tiger Pass, Lalkhan Bazar and KazirDewri were full of enthusiastic party-men and people.

The Prime Minister earlier reached Chattogram in the morning to attend several programmes including the rally.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister ObaidulQuader, its Presidium Members Engineer MosharrafHossain, Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad AbdurRazzaque, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Abdur Rahman and MofazzalHossain Chowdhury Maya, Joint General Secretaries Mahbub-ulAlamHanif, Information and Broadcasting Minister DrHasan Mahmud and AFM BahauddinNasim, and Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan addressed the rally, among others.
