Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said the ruling party is not afraid of Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Dhaka rally on December 10.

"Awami League is not afraid of BNP’s rally. Awami League is afraid of arson attack and sticks of BNP. You have that bad intention. That is why, you need Paltan," he said.

Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, made the comments while addressing the council of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Dhaka University unit on the Aparajeyo Bangla premises on Saturday.

Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Obaidul Quader said, "We know the reason why BNP wants to hold rally in Nayapaltan excluding Suhrawardy Udyan. Even before the last election, Begum Zia held a rally here. But Mr Fakhrul, why do you not want to hold rally at Suhrawardy Udyan? It is proved once again that you do not have the spirit of Liberation War."

“The daydream that you (BNP) are expecting on the restoration of the scrapped caretaker government provision will never be realised in this country,” he also said.

He said, "There is no chance of bringing an amendment to the constitution. BNP has torn the constitution several times. No one has the right to touch the existing constitution."

The minister said, "Tarique Rahman is on the bank of Thames River in London and sending messages while Mirza Fakhrul shouting that Sheikh Hasina and all the ministers will leave the country. This will never happen."

BCL president Al-Nahean Khan Joy inaugurated the council session while its general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee was present as the keynote speaker.

Al Nahean Khan Joy, in his speech, said Chhatra League is working to build a safe campus, free from terrorism and drugs.

BCL DU unit president Sonjit Chandra Das, general secretary Saddam Hussain, leaders and activists of different halls, faculties and institutes were present at the council.
