BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the government to give them permission to hold the party’s divisional public rally in Nayapaltan instead of Suhrawardy Udyan.
"We have already sent a letter to the police commissioner (DMP) a month ago stating that we want to hold a public rally in Nayapaltan. Many rallies were held there without any problems. It is divisional rally, not national level," he said.
He alleged that the government has been carrying out "repression" on opposition men for the last month, following the party’s divisional public rallies across the country.
Meanwhile, a delegation of BNP leaders led by its Vice Chairman Barkatullah Bulu is scheduled to meet IGP (Inspector General of Police) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Thursday afternoon at the police headquarters, BNP sources said.
The four-member delegation will meet the IGP at 1:00 pm to discuss the recent arrests of BNP leaders and activists and the party’s December 10 public rally.
