The Detective Branch (DB) of police has busted a fake cosmetics factory at Mugda in the capital and arrested five people in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB Wari Division under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a drive at the factory on Monday.
Five members of the gang involved in producing and selling such products were also arrested at that time. They are Mohiuddin alias Sagar, 34, Nazim Hossain, 25, MK Parvez, 52, Anwar Hossain, 24, and Uzzal Hossain Mukul, 30.
Harun-Or-Rashid, DMP additional commissioner (DB), briefed reporters at the DMP Media Centre in this regard on Tuesday.
He said the arrestees and their cohorts used to make fake cosmetics of different renowned brands at the factory and spread those to the city and other parts of the country.
They used fake logos of BSTI to market the products, tarnishing the image of the brands and causing financial harm for them.
The use of fake cosmetics is causing different diseases, including cancer, Harun said, adding that their drive is on to arrest the accomplices of the arrested persons.
