The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) thinks the floor area ratio outlined in the detailed area plan (DAP) presents a challenge to the real estate sector.

Businessmen expressed their concerns at a meeting of the FBCCI's standing committee on real estate and housing on Sunday.

As the chief guest, FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin presented the situation to REHAB President Alamgir Shamsul Alamin.

The business leaders noted that developers cannot construct buildings higher than four to five stories near narrow streets according to DAP. Previously, however, they were able to construct buildings of eight to ten stories.

The government approved a fresh DAP in the second week of August this year.

Jashim Uddin said there are opportunities to discuss challenges and ways forward with policymakers.

“Prior to that, business owners should conduct a detailed analysis of the new DAP,” he advised.

REHAB president Alamgir Shamsul Alamin said there are many positive aspects of the new DAP as well as some complications.

Amin Helaly, vice-president of the FBCCI, urged policymakers to address the challenges faced by businessmen.

The chairman of the committee, Liakat Ali Bhuiyan Milan, noted that the construction sector has already entered a state of crisis due to the high prices of construction materials.     He called for making the new DAP more business-friendly.

FBCCI directors Nasir Majumder, Shafiqul Islam Vorosha, Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal, Hafez Harun, Abu Motaleb, Akkas Mahmood, Secretary General Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque, Commmitte Co-chairmen Mohammad Nizam Uddin Jitu, Mohammad Ali Deen, Kamal Mahmud, AFM. Ubaidullah were also present on the occasion.
