Afil Jute Weaving Mills Ltd owned by Member of Parliament Sheikh Afil Uddin burnt down at Sharsa in Jashore on Saturday.

The fire originated from an electric short circuit, said Manoranjan Sarkar, assistant director of Benapole Fire Service and Civil Defence. Three warehouses of the mill burnt down at around 1:00pm on the day.

General Manager of Afil Jute Weaving Mills Abdul Wahab said about 100 crore worth of goods have been damaged by the fire. Six units from Jashore, Jhikargacha and Benapole fire services managed to bring the fire under control at 3:00pm. About 20 workers were injured in the incident.

The mill authorities alleged that the fire service units arrived in the spot half an hour after they were informed.

The fire might have originated from electric short circuit, sources said.
