A global touring photo exhibition titled ‘Resilience - Stories of Women Inspiring Change’ kicked off at Drik Gallery in the capital on Friday. The Netherlands Embassy in Dhaka in partnership with Drik Picture Library organised the exhibition.
Netherlands Ambassador Anne van Leeuwen, UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression Irene Khan and Managing Director of Drik Picture Library Shahidul Alam were present at the inaugural ceremony.
The exhibition conveys the commitment of the Netherlands to women’s rights and gender equality. Multiple voices through 9 series and 8 single photographs, documented by 17 photographers of 13 different nationalities of 15 countries, offer insights into issues including sexism, gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive rights, and access to equal empowerment opportunities.
The selection of stories explores how the representation of women and gender equality has evolved in the 21st century and how photojournalism has developed in the ways of portraying these issues.
The exhibition will continue till December 10 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm every day.
Additionally, to deepen the audience’s engagement, three-panel discussions will be organised as side events for a broader engagement on November28, December 1 and December 8 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
