CHATTOGRAM: Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Limited (CUFL), a state-owned urea fertiliser company, halted its production after a fire broke out at the factory on Tuesday. 

The fire broke out in the pipe of a boiler of Ammonia plant of the factory around 8:45am, said Company Fire and Safety Officer Abdur Rob.

He said they doused the fire after struggle for 15 to 20 minutes.

The fire is assumed to have originated from an overheating boiler in the factory.

CUFL General Manager (Operation) Pradip Kumar Nath said fertiliser production has been suspended temporarily after the incident. 

Investigation was launched to find the cause behind the fire, added Pradip.

CUFL, located on the south bank of Karnaphuli River, currently produces an average of 1,400 tonnes of urea and 600 tonnes of ammonia per day.
