Armed Forces Day observed at missions abroad

Bangladesh missions abroad observed the Armed Forces Day, with a vow to brightening the country’s positive image across the world and upholding the image of Bangladesh Armed Forces.

To celebrate the day, the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Monday hosted a reception at Bangabandhu Hall of the Chancery. Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich, Director General Military Intelligence of Indian Army graced the ceremony as the chief guest.

Many war veterans of Indian Armed Forces, diplomats of different countries and most of the Defence Advisers/Attaches based in Delhi attended the event.

The chief guest along with High Commissioner designate and Defence Adviser laid floral wreath to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and paid homage to all martyrs of Liberation War of 1971. The National Anthems of both the countries were played. Besides, a video clip containing the contribution of Bangladesh Armed Forces in nation building and for international peace was screened.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC also celebrated the day.

According to a message received from the Embassy, Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Adviser to the Prime Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, and Gabe Camarillo, Under Secretary of US Army, were present at the function.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran also spoke at the event held at Bangabandhu Auditorium of the Embassy in the evening.

Lieutenant General Michael T Plehn, President of National Defence University, USA, and Afreen Akhter, US Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, were also present at the event.

The programme began with the playing of the national anthems of Bangladesh and the USA. A short documentary on the activities of the Bangladesh Armed Forces was also screened.

Diplomats and Defence Attaches from a number of countries, senior officials from the Pentagon, Department of State, and other US organisations, members of Bangladeshi diaspora and Embassy officials and employees attended the function.

Similar celebration reports also received from the Bangladesh missions in Ankara, Riyadh, Permanent Mission to UN in New York, High Commission in Ottawa and other countries.
