Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer’s son and another were sent to jail on Saturday in a case filed in the capital’s Jatrabari Police Station under the Anti-terrorism Act.

They are Rafat Sadik Saifullah, son of Jamaat Ameer Dr Md Shafikur Rahman, and Arif Fahim Siddiqui.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tarikul Islam passed the order when police took them before the court after completion of their one-day remand.

The defence, however, pleaded for scraping the remand plea and granting them bail, which was opposed by the state. Earlier on November 17, the court placed them on a one-day remand.

A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested the duo in Sylhet on November 9.

According to the police, Rafat is a top leader of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam's Sylhet chapter and ran jihadi activities there for a long period of time.
