MSC qualify for quarterfinal; Sk Russel taste first win

Mohammedan Sporting Club defeated Fortis Football Club by 3-1 goals in their second Group A match and confirmed their quarterfinal place in the season’s curtain-raiser Bashundhara Group 12th Independence Cup 2022 in Cumilla on Thursday.

Mohammedan’s Malian captain Souleymane Diabate, Brazilian defender Roger Duarte de Oliveira and forward Jafar Iqbal scored one each for the winning side while Fortis FC’s Brazilian forward Luiz Carlos scored one for his side.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd tasted their first win after they beat Navy Football Team by 2-0 goals in their second Group A match in Gopalganj.

 Forward Mohammad Ibrahim and Congolese forward Mpia Mapuku Junior scored one each for the winners in the second and 12th minute respectively.

Sheikh Russel earlier started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against newcomers Fortis Football Club Ltd in Cumilla on Sunday.

On Friday, the three-time Bangladesh Premier league champions Bashundhara Kings will take on Azampur Football Club Uttara in their second Group B match in Gopalganj while Chattogram Abahoni Ltd will play against Fakirapool Young Men’s Club at the Bir Shrestha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj during the other fixture of the same group.
