Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute, an ophthalmic venture of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, has performed surgery on 16 impoverished eye patients free of charge.

Hailing from Kasba Upazila of Brahmanbaria, eight male patients and eight female patients received cataract and DCR surgery in the hospital in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area on Thursday.

Bashundhara Eye Hospital, Vision Care Foundation and Mandarpur Samity Dhaka jointly arranged the surgery.

Supervised by hospital Director Prof Dr Md Saleh Ahmed, Dr Rubina Akhtar and Dr Tasruba Shahnaz took part in the operations. On August 23, Bashundhara Eye Hospital provided free treatment to around 300 poor and helpless patients at a free eye camp at Ma Amena Gofur Charitable Hospital in Mandarpur. Of them, 60 patients including the 16 were selected for surgery.

Md Ahsan Habib, manager of Bashundhara Eye Hospital, said 16 patients were operated on as part of the hospital’s continuous humanitarian gesture.

The hospital has set up free eye camps in various parts of the country, provided treatment to distressed patients and carried out surgery on 1,600 people for free so far.

The patients are relieved of all costs of transport, surgery, food, shelter and medicine.
