Police arrested a member of a racket involved in marketing fake medicines in the capital on Thursday.

The arrestee is Iqbal Hossain alias Rana. A team of DB Motijheel Division arrested him with huge amounts of fake medicine from Motijheel.

Over 25,400 fake pantonix tablets (20mg), 36,000 seclo (20mg), 92,000 sergel (20mg), 1,08,500 finix (20mg), 36,000 losectil (20mg) and 5,400 etorix were seized from him.

Additional Commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Harun-Or-Rashid said this while briefing reporters at DMP media centre on Thursday.

The information extracted from him during primary interrogation helped police recover the fake medicine from English Road in Old Dhaka and Cumilla town.

"Iqbal said that he used to bring the medicine from Mohammad Atiar in Nilphamari and store it in Cumilla. Later, he marketed those in different parts of the capital and elsewhere in the country," said Harun.

The officer said that they were conducting raids to arrest other members of the racket. A case was filed against the arrestee with the Motijheel Police Station.
