Police arrested the son of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman for his alleged link with Ansar Al Islam, a banned militant outfit.
According to CTTC sources, a team from the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit's Bomb Disposal Unit arrested Dr Rafat Chowdhury, alias Rifat Sadik, in Sylhet on Wednesday.
CTTC sources said they arrested three militants in the capital’s Sayedabad area on November 2. The arrestees informed police that Rifat was a leader of the banned militant organisation.
During interrogation, the three arrested militants said that they were indoctrinated by Rifat into militancy.
On November 6, the accused gave confessional statements before a Dhaka court.
