Saif keep hopes alive for knockout beating Rupayan

The lowly Saif Power Group Khulna kept their hopes alive for the knockout phase of the ongoing Hockey Champions Trophy Bangladesh 2022 after beating Rupayan City Cumilla by 3-1 goals in a thrilling match at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the capital on Wednesday.

Saif’s German-born Austrian player Mortiz Frey netted twice and Tanzim Ahmed added one while Rupayan’s Korean player Kim Sung Yeob scored one.

After conceding five consecutive defeats, Saif tasted their first victory against Walton Dhaka by 5-3 goals on Sunday. Then, they beat Mettro Express Barishal by 4-3 goals on Monday. 

Saif earned a total of 9 points with these three back to back wins from three wins and five defeats while the table topper ACME Chattogram brightened their chances for the knockout with 16 points from five wins, two defeats and one draw.

Rupayan were second with their previous credit of 13 points from four wins, three defeats and one draw.

Among others, Mettro earned 12 points from four wins and three defeats, Monarch Padma 12 points from four wins, four defeats and Walton 6 points from two wins and five defeats so far.
