The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive convict in connection with the murder of tailor Biswajit Das, a decade after he was sentenced to life in prison.

Md Yunus Ali, 36, son of Khondokar Yakub Ali of Magura, was nabbed on Monday morning during a raid in Kellapur area of Narayanganj, said senior assistant superintendent of police Md Fazlul Haque, also senior additional director (media) of RAB-2 on Tuesday. Yunus is one of the 13 people jailed for life in the case.

According to RAB official, Yunus confessed to his involvement in the murder during preliminary interrogation. On December 9, 2012, tailoring shop employee Biswajit was hacked to death in broad daylight by Bangladesh Chhatra League activists of Jagannath University unit near Bahadur Shah Park in old Dhaka during the BNP-led alliance’s countrywide demonstration.

A case was subsequently filed at Sutrapur Police Station. Police later indicted 21 suspects of the murder.
