Walton Dhaka suffer defeat in Hockey Champions Trophy

Walton Dhaka made a disappointing start in the maiden edition of Hockey Champions Trophy Bangladesh 2022 as they conceded a 2-3 goals defeat to Metro Express Barisal in their first match at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the capital on Saturday.

Both Walton and Metro Express wasted several penalty corners throughout the match. Walton were more disappointing as they spoiled at least six penalty corners in the 35th, 39th, 49th, 50th, 52nd and 53rd  minutes of the game while Metro Express wasted only two chances in the 40th, 41st minutes.

Deen Islam Emon and and Malaysian Akhimullah Eshook scored one field goal each for Metro Express in 32nd and 58th minutes while Rokibul Hasan Roki reduced the gap for Walton with his lone field goal in the 37th minute.

Earlier on Friday, Rupayan City Cumilla made a winning start beating Monarch Padma by 3-2 goals in the second match on the opening day at the same venue.

Obaidul Hossain Joy, Shohanur Rahman and Pushkor Khisa Mimo scored one field goal each for Rupayan in the 2nd, 8th and 22nd minutes while Woohyeong Seo netted one field goals each in the 57th and 58th minutes for Monarch.
