Jatiya Party’s internal crisis has deepened as the party has removed Moshiur Rahman Ranga from the posts of opposition chief whip and the party’s primary membership.
In a written statement issued on Friday, the Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader has removed Moshiur Rahman Ranga from the post of opposition chief whip. At the same time, the party chief also removed Ranga from the party’s primary membership.
The Jatiya Party insiders said its chairman GM Quader wants to see the party’s senior co-chairman Annisul Islam Mahmud as deputy leader of the opposition in the National Parliament, party insiders said.
Another senior leader of the party Fakhrul Imam has also been nominated as the chief whip of the opposition in the Parliament.
The Parliamentary Committee of the party has already nominated the above leaders for the positions and wants to see the changes.
They are likely to be appointed to the posts ahead of the upcoming Parliament session as the Jatiya Party parliamentary party is likely to submit an application to the speaker of Jatiya Sangsad soon.
"After all, after settling the issue of the appointment of GM Quader as opposition leader, the other posts will be brought under consideration," Munibul Haque Chunnu, secretary general of the Jatiya Party, told the Daily Sun.
Later, party’s Parliamentary Party on September 1 handed over a letter to Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury requesting her to recognise GM Quader as the opposition leader.
The party also expelled Ranga from all posts on September 14 after he wrote to the Speaker that the letter was not submitted following the proper procedure. Talking to the Daily Sun, Ranga who has joined the Raushan Ershad faction, said they have been taking preparations for the party’s council in full swing.
He also said Raushan Ershad will return home on October 29 from Bangkok.
